HPC Operator Tech 3
Summary
High Performance Computer operations consists of a twenty four hour day, seven days a week, 365 days a year work schedule. May work off shifts (grave and swing), weekends and Holidays as assigned with minimum supervision and with reduced staffing levels. This position is considered essential personnel and as such the incumbent will be required to report to work during inclement weather and winter closures.
Will configure, coordinate, and monitor the operation of computer equipment, storage systems, and network operations with minimal assistance; manage controls in accordance with standard operating procedures and policies; is responsible for running diagnostic tests and manipulating monitoring tools to detect and interpret system warnings and failures; monitor control panels, mass-storage units and other peripheral equipment for proper operation; and report any/all observed warnings and deviations to designated on call personnel. This position will function as a help desk point of contact for user connectivity problems and will escalate problems to the Network Infrastructure support team.
Education
Position typically requires a high school diploma and two-to-four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At this level, additional training, certification, and/or education may be desirable. Technical Institute graduation or AA degree may be preferred.
